Integrating A Microwave Into Your Kitchen Design

Integrating a microwave into your kitchen design

We have heard this question from designers; “Where do you put the microwave?” Some people do not like the look of a counter top or over-the-range microwave in their kitchen.

If you are not building or remodeling your kitchen, the simplest solution is to put the counter top microwave in a different room. Some people put it on the counter of a nearby pantry or on the counter of a kitchenette in another area of the home.

However, we offer a few other options if you are planning to build or remodel your home.

BUILT-IN MICROWAVE OVEN

If you have a wall oven, or plan to have a wall oven in your home, a built-in microwave can integrate with it.

We’ve seen designs where a built-in microwave goes above, below or beside the wall oven.

You should know the built-in microwave is often smaller than a traditional wall oven.

If you install the built-in microwave to either side of your tradition wall oven, you will likely have to offset the size difference with a trim kit.

Countertop Microwave With A Trim Kit

You can have your counter top microwave installed into your cabinetry with a trim kit. This option would integrate your microwave into the design of your kitchen but also cost less than installing a built-in microwave.

A microwave drawer provides a very similar look to the counter top microwave option with the trim kit, but a much different function.

Instead of opening with a side hinge, a single touch opens the microwave like a drawer.

Some people prefer it, but it’s not for everyone so we would definitely recommend trying it out in our showroom first if you have never used a microwave drawer before.
