COMMON APPLIANCE LIGHT BULB MISTAKE
Our repair technicians see a variety of issues and we always want to help our customers avoid an easy mistake. Appliance light bulbs seem rather simple to change, but we have seen a small mistake result in a big repair bill.
What mistake do we see the most? Someone wants to change out a light bulb on their appliance, but they want a brighter bulb so they install one with a higher wattage.
The new bulb forces the control board or transformer on the appliance to fail and even burn out other components.
Consult your Use and Care Guide to install the manufacturer-recommended voltage and wattage.
HANDLING YOUR APPLIANCE LIGHT BULBs
We also see another common problem. People mishandle their appliance light bulbs when they install a new one.
Halogen bulbs must be handled carefully and kept clean. Even touching the glass with clean fingers can leave enough oil residue to create a problem. The residue creates a hot spot which shortens the life of the bulb.
Any bulb should be handled with a clean cloth, tissue or clean gloves.
